The Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) is a 2-in-1 that provides both laptop and tablet functionality. Targeted at the lower-end of the business spectrum, this Windows 10 ultra-portable seeks to provide as many features as possible for those on a budget. As is typical with Dell, a variety of configurations are available to suit customer needs.
Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) – Performance and Display:
It comes with a 2.3 Ghz Intel core I3-6100U processor, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD. While slower than the ThinkPad Yoga 460, its performance is above average for this segment. The device was able to handle fairly intensive multi-tasking without any significant decline in performance. Although it can handle games better than the ThinkPad Yoga 460 or most ultra-portable 2-in-1s, this is not a laptop built for high-end gaming. On medium settings, 20 fps was the best output on benchmark tests. It is worth noting that cooling fans were only noticeable during gaming. The device runs cool and quiet in all other circumstances.
The Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) has a 13.3″ display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The screen is bright and sharp with LED backlighting. Although colors lacked vividness and range, accuracy was exceptional. Considering the price point and segment, the display is more than suitable for one’s requirements.
Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) – Keyboard, Tablet, and Camera:
The Dell Latitude 13 3000 2-in-1’s major weakness is its backlit keyboard. Key presses felt shallow with typos being too common. However, the trackpad felt smooth and accurate. By folding it back on its 360-degree hinge, this laptop can be converted into a tablet. Three positions (besides laptop mode) are possible: a stand, upside-down V and folding the screen all the way back. This makes it quite handy for presentations. The Dell Latitude 13 3000 2-in-1 (3379) also includes a 720p camera which provides decent picture quality. While suitable for Skype or Hangout calls, the detail was a bit fuzzy with some pixelation noticed.
Ports, Weight, and Dimensions:
The Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) comes with a nice selection of standard ports: HDMI, SD card slot, two USB 3.0 slots and a headphone jack. It also provides a nifty USB Type-C with DisplayPort. At 3.6 pounds and 12.7 x 8.8 x 0.8 inches, this 2-in-1 is lighter and smaller than the ThinkPad Yoga 460. Although slightly heavier than some laptops, its overall dimensions are within the norm for this segment and do not hamper its portability.
Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) – Battery Life and Pricing:
With a battery life of approximately 8 hours, the Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) provides sufficient cover for one’s work day. This is in line with the most expensive ThinkPad Yoga 460. The model with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD is priced at $899. An even cheaper base model for the Dell Latitude 13 3000 (3379) costs $699 with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Two more advanced specifications are priced at $999 and $1099. The $999 option provides a Core i5-6300U CPU. An upgrade to 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD, and an i5 6200CPU is offered in the $1099 version.
With decent battery life, USB Type-C port, and solid performance, the Dell Latitude 13 3000 2-in-1 (3379) is extremely affordable. For those on a budget, this 2-in-1 device is cheaper than most of its competition. Dell’s trademark variety in specifications also assures that additional options for those seeking more power are available.
