There are a wide variety of laptops available in all price ranges, but the most expensive premium business laptops were mostly MacBooks from Apple. Recently some other manufacturers also entered this mostly untapped niche, including HP with their EliteBook Folio series. Their newest model is the HP EliteBook Folio G1, which is specifically targeted at high-end business users who mainly use their devices for office work.
HP EliteBook Folio G1 – Design and Premium Quality:
The HP EliteBook Folio G1 is one of the newest premium-quality laptops from HP, and it seems to be their answer to Apple’s MacBook series. The first thing we might notice upon unpacking the laptop is its gorgeous design. The diamond trim which runs around the upper and lower edges are one of the distinct, unique design elements of this laptop. Another is the shiny single-piece aluminum hinge, which is also of a premium quality: it only moves the screen if you actually want it to be moved. This hinge is also capable of keeping the computer almost flat, which can be helpful for collaboration when people gather around the laptop. Thanks to its 12-inch touch-screen display and a comfortable keyboard plus touchpad, the EliteBook can double as a Windows 10 tablet and a standard laptop. The keyboard and touchpad are spill-resistant and have a gentle backlight. It is also very light: it only weighs 0.99 kg and 12.4 mm thick, almost on par with the ultra-thin MacBooks.
HP EliteBook Folio G1 – Specs and Battery Life:
The laptop is one of the most powerful business laptops available on the market. It has a second-gen Intel Core M processor from the M3, M5 or M7 type, depending on the exact model. These models are great for the general office and home use, and some very light graphic and video editing – nothing that requires very high power, though. Regardless of the processor type, the laptops feature 8 GB of RAM, a 1080p or 4K touchscreen display, and two USB-C ports, meaning you can charge the device while using an external display, mouse or another peripheral. Graphics are Intel 5300-powered, thus, this laptop is not a “gamer” one by any means, but it can play full-HD and 4K videos without any issues. For its price range, the device has a fairly low amount of built-in SSD storage: only 256 GB, which is less than competitors’ 512 GB or 1 TB offerings. It can be expanded with a MicroSD card for additional media storage.
The UHD variant of the HP EliteBook Folio G1 has about 10 hours of battery life from a full charge, which is quite impressive. There are some unique aspects of this laptop that HP thought would appeal to professional and business users. One of this is that the microphone and the speakers are tuned for voice chat instead of music, and the keyboard has dedicated buttons for accepting and declining calls, and opening the calendar.
HP EliteBook Folio G1 – Price:
The EliteBook is a premium laptop brand, and as such, they have very high market prices. The HP EliteBook Folio G1 model with M3 processors and UHD display starts at $999, the M7 model costs about $1799 and the M5 variants are between $1299 and $1499.
