Lenovo Ideapad 300S Review

Bearing in mind that the average price for a quality laptop is less than five hundred US dollars, it is a bit surprising that you have to part with twice that amount for a device possessing a superior build prowess and solid performance. The Lenovo Ideapad 300S is a quality 14-inch notebook that at, $530, seems surprisingly premium for the price. Characterized with a colorful red design, a sturdy chassis and a keyboard-touchpad that is highly responsive, the overall performance of this machine is pretty good.

Lenovo Ideapad 300S – Red Color Design:

The notebook is a nice shade of red color that makes seem like it came right off a racing car. The new model is, however, available in pretty black and silver too. When you lift the lid, almost everything seems black, from the palm rest to the keyboard and to the bezel around the screen. Ideapad 300S is comparatively light for a fourteen-inch laptop, as it weighs 4.5 pounds.

The 2.9 by 4.2-inch touchpad of the 300S is full of spaces, and more significantly, it is very accurate. Things like pinch to zoom, pulling forward with fingers to show the desktop and swiping to show my open windows work flawlessly. Its touchpad does not have any buttons that are dedicated, but boasts the right amount of the click and therefore very comfortable to operate.

Display and Webcam:

The Lenovo Ideapad 300S 1080 by 1920 fourteen-inch display produces very sharp images, and also the color reproduction is pretty good. The 300S covers delivers a close to 70% of the sRGB spectrum, which is excellent and delivers a Delta-E color score accuracy of 4.3, which is quite disappointing.

This machine has all the standard ports you would see in a laptop but has some pretty and interesting additions. It has an Ethernet port, which is not easy to find on most of the mainstream consumer laptops. This precious port is located on the right side, between the two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port. On its left side, you’ll meet a lock slot, adapter power port, an SD card reader, a USB 2.0 port and a microphone combo headphone jack. Its webcam of 720p is also enough to capture a host of photos that seems satisfying, and clear enough for a chat with friends on Skype.

Lenovo Ideapad 300S – Battery Life:

The Ideapad 300S is able to get you through a reasonable portion of your day, as it lasts closer to seven hours, and is able to surf the web continuously over Wi-Fi at a hundred nits.

The Lenovo Ideapad 300S boasts of an Intel Core i5-6200u processor 2.30 Ghz, a 500 GB HDD, Intel HD Graphics 520 and a 8 GB RAM.

Lenovo Ideapad 300S – Price and Conclusion:

The red Lenovo Ideapad 300S is available for $529.99, but the one which is in silver or black comes at a slightly higher price, for about $679.99. The base modeled one, which has lesser specs, with a Core i3-6100U processor, a 1366by 768 screen and a RAM of 4GB is available in black and costs $549. A more recent model with full –HD screen, 8GB RAM is available at $569.99 and is black in color.

The machine is designed with a beautiful red chassis, boasts of a full HD display, possesses a highly responsive touchpad and keyboard, comparatively light for its size and worth the money.

However, it has a below average battery life, and a grainy webcam.

Even though the price of the Lenovo Ideapad 300S is huge and aggressive to some, its overall performance, nature of its weight plus the red beautiful exterior are a massive plus.
